Only strangers are cool

The only people who can be cool are people who are far away from you, like movie stars. Once I get to know a person, that coolness mystique wears off, and I see them as a human being, with all their flaws and foibles. There isn't one person I know who I think of as cool (beyond the decent person, easy-to-get-along-with meaning.)

Odd. I think a lot of my closest friends are also the coolest people I know. (Otherwise why did I go through the effort of becoming close friends?)

Maybe your definition of coolness includes the person being unattainable?

Yeah, I'm talking from-a-distance cool, like rock star cool. Like if you hung around Mick Jagger or Chris Martin, you'd eventually probably realize that he was just a man.

I find that when I get to know someone's flaws and vulnerabilities, it makes their ingenious talents even more impressive. Like, if you saw that Chris Martin was just a man who goes grocery shopping and has flaws and insecurities, but then you saw him perform in front of thousands of screaming fans, it becomes his accomplishments even more impressive. It's usually happened that way for me, at least.
